Chemical Peels For the Aging Faces

TCA Peel

Trichloracetic acid (TCA) are used to correct fine lines, superficial scars, minimal laxity and pigmentation problems. A TCA peel works by removing dead skin cells and stimulating new skin cell growth. It is very beneficial to persons of all skin types. Ethnic skin tones such as Asian, African-American, Italian and other darker skins tones can safely undergo beneficial resurfacing. This peel can be used not only on the face, but on the neck, chest, back, arms, hands, etc.

Am I a candidate?

You are a candidate if you have visible signs of aging, splotchiness, uneven pigmentation, acne, acne scars, black heads or sun damaged skin. During your consultation, we will review your skin concerns, skin type, and goals for treatment and determine if this is the right aesthetic treatment for you.

What can a TCA Peel be used to treat?

  •       Mild wrinkles

  •       Superficial acne scarring

  •       Hyperpigmentation

  •       Actinic keratosis

  •       Collagen Loss

Are there any side effects?

You may experience some swelling, tingling, itching, and redness during the peeling process. These side effects are temporary and typically resolve on their own.  You should use additional sun protection if you plan to be exposed to the sun, as a TCA peel increases the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

Is there downtime?

Yes, all chemical peels require some downtime. Light flaking, irritation, and peeling usually occur for a few days after light peels. It can take up to six weeks for skin to return to its normal appearance following a medium chemical peel. Deep chemical peels are closer in nature to a surgical treatment—patients are usually asked to rest their skin for two weeks before they're able to resume normal activities or wear makeup. Skin may remain red in appearance for up to three months.

Jessner Peel

Jessner peels are milder than TCA peels and are recommended for patients with darker skin tones or for those who suffer from melasma. Jessner peels can be used to improve the tone and texture of the skin, reduce the appearance of large pores, and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In order to achieve optimal results, we recommend a series of five to six peels scheduled once a month.

What can I do to prep my skin for a series of Jessner peels?

You can start preparing your skin for a peel with our brightening lotion that contains two to four percent Hydroquinone, along with botanicals, antioxidants, and Retin A, which will help begin sloughing off your skin in preparation for your peel. Our brightening lotion will also help lighten dark spots and improve the overall tone of your skin. Start on a Hydroquinone Brightening Lotion regimen at least two to three months prior to your Jessner peel series; the sooner you begin prepping your skin, the better the results!

After Chemical Peel Instructions

  • Immediately following peel take extra precaution to guard against exposure to sun. This means 30 SPF and large brimmed hat (not a visor or baseball cap).

  • First night, do not wash face at all.

  • Days 2 through 6 avoid harsh cleansers, scrubs, Clarisonic (or any other scrubbing brushes), washcloths, Retin-A, AHAs, or Benzoyl Peroxide.

  • Pat skin dry/do not rub.

  • DO NOT PICK OR PULL THE SKIN, as scarring and hyperpigmentation (brown spots) can occur.

  • Apply over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream over treated areas to minimize redness, itching, irritation and hyperpigmentation (optional). If you have a darker skin tone, this is not optional.

  • It is safe to wear makeup the same day depending on the level of peel. Aggressive peels, avoid makeup for 3 days.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise (i.e.: Hot Yoga) with aggressive peels, the toxins and salts in sweat can get trapped under newly peeled skin and cause irritation.

  • Do not have any other facial treatments/procedures for at least one week after peel or until flaking stops.

  • NOTE: Everyone will not experience peeling of their facial skin. However, this is not an indication that the peel was ineffective. If peeling does not occur please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the peel, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminished fine lines and pigmentation.
